Sue Wong, a retired property developer and manager, shares her journey as a devoted Buddhist and long-time member of the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA). Born in Taiwan, Sue grew up in a family deeply rooted in Buddhism, with early memories of visiting temples. Moving to Australia in the 1980s, Sue initially felt isolated but soon found solace within the Buddhist community, ultimately leading to her active involvement in Nan Tien Temple. Introduced to Venerable Master Hsing Yun's teachings, Sue's view of Buddhism evolved, marking the beginning of her significant contributions to the temple's development. Over the years, she played a pivotal role in community building, volunteer coordination, and the establishment of Nan Tien Temple and its affiliated branches in Sydney.
Reflecting on her dedication, Sue speaks to the transformative impact that Nan Tien Temple has had on her life, particularly through its support during personal hardships. Her involvement with the temple has allowed her to connect deeply with both the Buddhist faith and the broader Australian community, promoting harmony and cultural exchange. Sue emphasises that her experiences with Master Hsing Yun left a lasting impression, particularly his philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, which she seeks to embody and perpetuate. The interview captures not only her devotion and resilience but also the enduring influence of Nan Tien Temple as a spiritual and cultural sanctuary.
