Venerable Yung Dong, originally named Lin Meifeng, shared her journey from her upbringing in a non-Buddhist family in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to her ordination and life as a Buddhist nun. Her early life was marked by a strong sense of discipline and a desire to contribute to society. Despite health challenges, she maintained a diligent spirit, leading her to a profound connection with Buddhism and Venerable Master Hsing Yun.
She recounted her deep sense of familiarity upon visiting Fo Guang Shan and how this spiritual connection eventually led to her ordination under Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Venerable Yung Dong also discussed her involvement in the establishment of Nan Tien Temple in Australia. She vividly described the challenges and successes of building the temple, including securing the land, overseeing construction, and cultivating a strong community of followers.
Her efforts extended to the establishment of Buddhist centres in other parts of Australia and New Zealand. Venerable Yung Dong's reflections on these experiences reveal her deep faith, resilience, and commitment to the spread of Humanistic Buddhism, as envisioned by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Her narrative is a testament to the spiritual and cultural significance of Nan Tien Temple as a beacon of Buddhist teachings in the Southern Hemisphere.
